Community Biodiversity Survey Project Background

Through funding from the Environmental Education Grants Program of the Environmental Trust, NPA is coordinating the Community Biodiversity Survey (CBS) Project.

Project aims:

  • To facilitate and support the community to conduct biodiversity surveys of the terrestrial and marine environments.

  • Enhance community understanding of and involvement in biodiversity conservation and regional land management processes through experiential learning.

  • Support and encourage potential advocates for community biodiversity surveys throughout the community.

  • Raise the profile of community biodiversity surveys and existing community biodiversity survey manuals.

  • Improve networks and partnerships between the general community and landholders, local government, industry, relevant state government agencies , educational institutes, Landcare groups, Catchment Management Authorities, and others involved in land management and biodiversity conservation.

  • Improve the quality and extent of biodiversity information for NSW terrestrial and marine environments.

  • Stimulate the broader interest of the community in undertaking their own biodiversity surveys.

  • Improve environmental quality through survey, identification of areas of high conservation value, increase awareness and potentially greater protection.
