State Council
meets four times a year - delegates from each of the 19 branches
are entitled to attend - the meetings are usually in March, May,
August and November.
State Council
decides on the strategic direction for NPA and sets NPA
Policies.
The work of
individual branches is strengthened and supported by State Council.
A guest speaker is usually invited to each State Council meeting
and very often this is an employee of NPWS who can give the delegates
a briefing about the National Park issues within the region in which
the meeting takes place.
Frequently,
the State Council meeting follows a theme.
Recent topics
of State Councils have included:
- Marine protected
areas and Marine Conservation Policy
- State Conservation
Areas Policy.
- The relationship
between NPA and local Government.
- Branch renewal.
- Communications
within NPA and beyond.
