Developing closer ties. NPA President, John Macris cuts a joint anniversary cake with NPWS Head, Tony Fleming to celebrate 40 years of NPWS & 50 years of NPA.
As most NPA members know, NPA was formed 50 years ago in 1957 with the purpose of lobbying the government of the day to form a special department to establish national parks and reserves throughout the state of NSW and to manage them in order to preserve our natural land forms, flora and fauna essential to the well being of the planet.
After 10 years of lobbyng the National Park sand Wildlife Service was formed. NPA and NPWS have enjoyed a close relationship during the last 40 years meeting and discussing new reserves and management issues in office and in the field.

Brian Everingham and John Macris, NPA presidents, past and present. Saturday August 4th saw 210 NPA supporters come together to celebrate NPA's 50th Anniversary. Andy McQueen was our entertaining MC for the evening and the elegant surrounds of The Tearoom in the historic Queen Victoria Building was the perfect setting for this historic occasion. While guests enjoyed their three course dinner and wine, they were treated to Dr Barrie Pittock's presentation titled "Climate Change: What to Expect and What to Do About It.". The evening also included the presentation of the 2007 Prudence Tucker and Allen and Beryl Strom volunteer awards. Click here to see the winners. This year we also inducted 4 new life members, Heather Roy, Peter Morgan, Alan Fox and Richard Thompson.
The evening concluded with lucky door prizes and a raffle. Thank you to everyone that came from far and near to make this night special.
Thank you to our sponsors for generously donating the prizes for the raffle and volunteer awards.

50th Birthday Celebration |
|
Wednesday, 11 April 2007 16:56 |
Hip Hip Hooray! Toasting 50 years of NPA in front of the 201 Castlereagh Street Thanks all who celebrated our real 50th anniversary last Wednesday 4 April.
The interest was overwhelming. In all we had 25 people at our gathering, including the impromptu attendance of Tony Fleming, Bob Conroy and Alistair Henchman from NPWS.
We first gathered outside 201 Castlereagh Street where the inaugural NPA meeting was held. At that meeting the NPA Constitution was adopted and the two founding 'regions' - Central and Hunter-Manning - that were formed earlier in the year as separate entities, became part of the new NPA. The first office bearers were elected.
